March 17 Update: Happy ☘️
We weren’t able to make it up to the hospital today, but we did receive a phone update from one of Matthew’s Nurse Practitioners.
She said he’s doing well but still having some retractions, so they haven’t been able to wean him off the 2 liter high oxygen flow. Because of that, they decided to do another heart ultrasound to make sure there isn’t anything unusual there.
It looked the same as it did a few weeks ago, still showing signs of ASD. I believe Matthew has two openings, which will most likely close up on their own. If they don’t, we will go see a pediatric cardiologist.
So, it looks like Matthew just needs some more time with the higher oxygen flow, which the nurse said they are happy to give him. This should not set him back as far as being able to come home by his due date. What might set him back, however, is his eating. He is still just very sleepy and not showing a lot of hungry cues when they wake him up every 3 hours for his care times. He has to be pretty solid with either breastfeeding or bottle feeding and eating a certain amount in order to be discharged. So that’s his big hurdle right now.
Hoping for some more progress in his eating this next week.
