March 2 Update
Weight: 1772 g (3 lbs 14.5 oz) He dropped a little in weight today. It’s normal to fluctuate some, and the nurse had just changed his diaper, which was pretty heavy; so that’s probably why.
Feedings are up to 32 ml every 3 hours, but the gavage time has increased from 60 minutes to 75 minutes. The gavage time is just the time the food is running through his feeding tube. They want to give him more time to digest his food and hopefully cut down on reflux.
Matthew’s liquid protein amount has also increased from .75 ml to 1 ml. It’s important for his brain development and growth.
He is still having some desats, even with the higher flow cannula, so they are still trying to figure out what the issue is. It could be reflux or apnea of prematurity (which is what the caffeine helped to prevent when he was on it- so if that’s the problem, they will put him back on it).
